I really appreciate seeing the Neg.Trend vids on YouTube, especially some of the old interview stuff. I tried to go see them at the Funhouse last the weekend before last but I had bad insomnia which led me to get my car stuck on some railroad tracks. Luckily I got my car off the tracks before a train came but it required a tow truck. So I fucking missed the show. Maybe they'll swing by this way again.

"Love" VS. "Fight"

"Love", the new studio album from Flipper, is about what you would expect from the kings of slowcore. With Jack Endino's production, the sound is killer. More inspired than "American Grafishy", Flipper still delivers a punch. For those expecting the old Flipper sound, you might be disappointed. There is still heavy, melodic bass--wielded by Krist, and Ted's incredible noisy guitar. Steve pounds the drums better than ever. Bruce adds his cranked-up vocals to the mix, and the lyrics have a philosophical punch. I can't say I'm in love with "Love", but I like it.

"Fight" is a live mix of new and old songs, recorded by Jack Endino at the Funhouse in Seattle (I was at that show!) and Dante's in Portland. I am more excited about this release than "Love", because it displays Flipper's humor and heart in a live setting. Bruce sounds drunk throughout most of this, and some of his comments are hilarious as ever. It is worth adding this to your Flipper collection, especially if you liked "Public Flipper,Ltd" and "Blow'n Chunks".

New Albums Out On May 19th!

Just went on Amazon and found Flipper's new albums, the studio-recorded "Love" and the live-recorded "Fight" (both by Jack Endino). They are available May 19th but may be pre-ordered, which is exactly what I'm going to do.

Also, "Gone Fishin'" (Flipper's second lp), and "Public Flipper, Ltd." (the live double album) are both available on cd. I couldn't be happier if Will himself rose from the dead and kissed me on the lips!

New Bassist, Old Stuff Released

For those who didn't know, Krist Novoselic left Flipper and now they are playing with Rachel Theole (Frightwig, Mudwimmin, God) on bass. Four albums of the back catalog are now out on cd and digital, and will be re-released on vinyl soon (March?). In March Flipper is playing South By Southwest, then heading to Australia, New Zealand, possibly Japan, and Europe. Thanks to Ted for this info.

This is just a post to check in, even though, as far as I know, nobody reads this blog. This is more like a published in outer space version of my life.

Yes, the book is taking shape. It is real. It is taking space on my calendar regularly. The writing is not going very well, but that is a whole other story.

Sometimes I wish I had a writing partner, someone to bounce things off of.

Flipper and Book News

Flipper should be coming out with all the old stuff on vinyl and cd very soon. Also expect a brand new Flipper cd released in January, hopefully in time for my birthday (the 11th).

As for my book, well, it's rolling along. My goal was 5 pages a week, but last week I only did two pages. This week has been better. I worked on the Introduction a bit.
